Celebrating 40 Years of Rocky with a Devotion: Our Soul's Mission
Our Soul’s Mission
By Teresa J. Herbic
…have hope toward God. Acts 24:15, NIV
Celebrating 40 years of the classic Rocky films today and
recalling Rocky III which featured the theme song “Eye of the Tiger.” As Survivor’s billboard-topping and
certified-platinum hit, it’s reflective of the life of Sylvester Stallone and
Rocky.
Stallone even specially requested the music to be written for the movie.
Like Rocky, Stallone struggled to make it, often failing, but never losing
sight of his purpose. Stallone came from nothing, but felt a passion to write and
play the role of Rocky.
Like this actor’s experience, life can sometimes feel like an
uphill battle. We all encounter trials and failures, particularly as parents.
Adoptive parents can face the battle wounds firsthand that our children
experienced prior to our even knowing them. And we care about every part of
their being.
As we travel through our years, we revisit our faith and the
motivation that keeps us going. It’s unforgettable in the movie when Rocky
stopped by the church and asked the pastor to send up a blessing for him before
a match. There are moments when we simply must do that. So, I ask for a
blessing now over you as a parent. Whatever your obstacles are—whatever your
climb entails, remember there’s always room at the top in Heaven’s chambers for
more champions for Christ. Keep focused on God and hope will prevail.
Risin' up, straight to the top -
Had the guts, got the glory
Dear Lord, Blessed be Your wisdom, direction, strength and
encouragement!
